What is Leadership Institute?
The LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE is a fun, educational, and rewarding program sponsored by the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce that is designed to meet our community’s needs for the active involvement of informed and dedicated community leaders.
- The program provides participants with an in-depth look at specific topics of community interest, such as city and county government, education, health resources, non-profit organizations, law enforcement and the courts, and the economic diversity of Pitt County.
- Developed by The Chamber to ensure a continuing reservoir of leadership talent for the future, the LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE consists of a series of one-day sessions designed to inform, to challenge, and to motivate leaders to become involved in supporting and directing the future of Pitt County.
How are Participants Selected?
The course is designed for those who represent various business and professional sectors of the community. Those who want to learn more about the community while developing and refining leadership skills are encouraged to participate, whether they are new to Greenville or have lived here for many years.
The Leadership Steering Committee selects the participants after careful consideration of their leadership potential, community interest and involvement, accomplishments, recommendations, and ability to assume community responsibility. The course is limited to 24 participants.

What is the Cost?
The tuition for the LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE is $750, which covers materials for the course, lunch during each session, the ECU Challenge Course, transportation during each session as necessary, and the participants’ graduation event. .
What is the Schedule/Time Commitment?
Leadership Institute sessions are generally scheduled from 8 AM – 5 PM on every other Wednesday beginning on January through June. Graduation is in June. Additional activities are required outside the scheduled days.
What are the Attendance Requirements?
Participants are expected to attend all sessions. No more than two days can be missed in order to graduate. Attendance will be taken in the mornings and afternoons; arriving late or leaving early will be counted as a half-day absence. If a participant is unable to attend a session, he/she must notify the Chamber, the Chairman of the Leadership Institute Steering Committee, or the session coordinator in advance. Any participant who misses more than two days will not receive a certificate or be able to participate in the Graduation Day events and ceremony. No make-up days or work assignments will be given in order to graduate.
Are There Any Additional Requirements?
Participants will also be asked to participate in group projects that will require some additional meetings and time commitment outside of the all-day sessions.
